Teliamura School Visit to Strengthen Child Protection

Senior district officials conducted a comprehensive school visit at Ichirbil High School under Teliamura Sub-Division as part of continued efforts to strengthen child protection systems and promote a safe, inclusive learning environment.

The visit was led by the District Magistrate & Collector, Khowai. He was accompanied by the ADM (PP), Khowai, OSD (Education), Khowai, District Child Protection Officer, Khowai, and representatives from Child in Need Institute. Their presence highlighted the administration’s integrated approach toward education and child welfare.

Teliamura School Visit

During the visit, the officials interacted with the Headmaster and teaching staff. They discussed academic supervision, student safety, and counselling mechanisms. The officials also stressed that the teachers would have to act as mentors under Balika Manch and CHESTA. They urged teachers to deal sensitively and consistently with students.

The District Magistrate personally scrutinized all the registers and records maintained in regard to Balika Manch. He looked for attendance details, activity logs, and follow-up actions. He advised school authorities to keep updated records, adding that meetings should be held regularly. Clear documentation, he said, allows for monitoring and accountability.

Later on, the District Magistrate had an interactive session with the students. In this session, he talked to the students regarding the rights of children, safety of kids, and the importance of confidence. Students participated in this session with full vigor and even shared their own experiences.

The officials also examined existing child protection mechanisms at the school. These included the grievance redress system and awareness mechanisms. In addition, timely reporting and coordination with the district authorities were emphasized, if needed.

The purpose of the visit was to reinforce the effective implementation of Balika Manch and CHESTA programmes at the school level, including the enhancing of coordination with the school authorities, the district office, and the partners.

Overall, the visit has reiterated the district administration’s commitment to child rights protection. Also, the visit has emphasized the importance of schools as they are central to child protection, empowerment, and their overall development within the Teliamura Sub-Division.
