The district administration in association with Dharmanagar Municipal Council conducted a massive eviction drive on Tuesday to free up roads and footpaths from encroachments like unauthorised constructions, banners and food stalls. The drive in question was flagged off at 3:00 PM and took us through the power points of town one by one.
Encroachments Removed from Busy Market Areas
At the time of operation, authorities conducted the eviction at East Market, Harimandir Market, Vivekananda Road, In front of BBI School, Dighir Paar and in front of Netaji Statue. These areas used to be heavily encroached upon. Traffic congestion became the issue, pedestrian’s inconvenience was inevitable.
While, officials and civic workers removed temporary sheds, roadside food stalls and unauthorised banners dotting public spaces. Thus, there was more freedom in driving for cars and the safety of pedestrians also increased, particularly during congested hours.
Administration Emphasises Public Convenience
Significantly, the eviction was done under the supervision of SDM, Dharmanagar from the District Administration of North Tripura. The effort was intended to clear traffic, increase public safety and keep busy commercial areas clean, officials said. They also cautioned shopkeepers and vendors against usurping public land without permission in violation of municipal norms.

Furthermore, authorities cautioned that the administration will take strict action against repeat offenders. At the same time, they confirmed that similar drives will continue regularly to prevent fresh encroachments.
