Dharmanagar Illegal Stone Crushers, A major enforcement drive against illegal stone crusher units was conducted on 11th and 13th February in the subdivision of Dharmanagar. The Sub-Divisional Administration led the operation and targeted 52 unauthorized stone crushers operating without proper approvals and environmental clearances.
Joint Enforcement Team Conducts Inspection
The administration carried out the drive in coordination with the Tripura State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB), the Forest Department, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), and the district police.
According to guidelines issued by the official Tripura Government portal (https://tripura.gov.in), industrial units must obtain proper licenses and environmental permissions before starting operations. During the inspection, officials verified documents and found multiple violations of these norms.
As a result, authorities sealed 50 illegal stone crusher units on the spot. Meanwhile, two units were already closed before the team reached the sites.
Environmental Norms and Legal Action
The Tripura State Pollution Control Board monitors industrial activities to control pollution and protect the environment. As per TSPCB regulations (https://tspcb.tripura.gov.in), stone crusher units must follow strict air and noise pollution standards.
However, many of the sealed units failed to comply with these mandatory requirements. Officials stated that excessive dust emission and unregulated crushing activities can seriously affect public health and nearby forest areas.
Therefore, the administration launched this drive to enforce environmental laws and prevent ecological damage. Authorities also warned operators that restarting operations without valid clearance would invite strict legal consequences.

To make sure that there is compliance, the team switched off the power supply to the closed units wherever necessary with the help of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited. The officials stated that this kind of collective effort will help improve law enforcement and environmental protection.
Moreover, the administration has stated that surprise inspections will continue in the coming weeks. By following environmental regulations and taking approvals from concerned departments, industrial units can avoid fines and help in sustainable development in Tripura.
The recent campaign makes it clear that the authorities will not allow any kind of illegal industrial setup in Dharmanagar or any other part of the state.
