Holi Celebrations in Tripura: Police Report Accidents, Detentions and Heavy Fines

Agartala, Tripura: Holi celebrations across the state of Tripura were marked by vibrant festivities, but authorities also reported several incidents that required police intervention. According to officials, the festival saw three road accidents, hundreds of preventive detentions, and fines amounting to more than ₹5 lakh as law enforcement agencies stepped up security and traffic monitoring.

The Tripura Police deployed additional personnel across major towns including Agartala, Udaipur, and Dharmanagar to maintain public order during the festival.

Police Action During Holi

Officials stated that several preventive measures were taken to ensure the safety of residents during the celebrations. Police teams carried out routine checks on vehicles, monitored crowded areas, and enforced strict traffic rules throughout the day.

During the operation, authorities detained around 445 individuals for violating public safety guidelines, including reckless driving and creating disturbances while under the influence of alcohol. In addition, traffic police imposed fines totaling ₹5.82 lakh for various violations such as drunk driving, riding without helmets, and other traffic offences.

Police officials said these steps were necessary to maintain safety during large public gatherings that typically occur during Holi.

Road Accidents Reported

Despite preventive measures, authorities confirmed that three road accidents occurred in different parts of the state during the celebrations. Fortunately, no major casualties were reported, though a few people sustained minor injuries.

Emergency response teams and local police quickly reached the accident sites and ensured that the injured received medical assistance. Authorities also urged citizens to follow traffic rules and avoid risky driving, especially during festivals when roads are crowded.

Maintaining Public Safety

Senior officials from the Tripura Police emphasized that maintaining public safety during major festivals remains a top priority. Special patrol units were deployed in sensitive areas, while traffic personnel were stationed at major intersections and highways.

Officials noted that most residents celebrated the festival peacefully, and the overall situation remained under control throughout the day.
