ISL: Mohun Bagan Face Chennaiyin FC in Crucial Early Clash
Mohun Bagan vs Chennaiyin: Mohun Bagan Super Giant will look to continue their strong start when they face Chennaiyin FC at the Salt Lake Stadium on Monday in the Indian Super League.
Their arch-rivals East Bengal FC have already won two matches in ISL-12. Therefore, Bagan will aim to do the same and stay level in the early title race.
Early Signs of Two-Horse Race | Mohun Bagan vs Chennaiyin
Before the season began, many predicted a direct battle between the two Kolkata giants. The 2025-26 edition started late and features a shortened schedule. Moreover, several teams struggled to build strong squads this year.
East Bengal have shown early promise. However, Bagan remain confident after winning last season’s ISL Shield and Cup. They have consistently challenged for top honours in recent years.
Preparation and Coach’s View
Unlike many teams, Bagan continued full training sessions during the break. In contrast, Kerala Blasters FC had only two weeks of preparation before their opener. Chennaiyin FC also had limited time to prepare.
Still, head coach Sergio Lobera refused to credit pre-season alone for success. He said competitive matches differ greatly from friendly games. He also pointed out that his team finished the Blasters match with 10 players due to cramps.
Chennaiyin Ready for Challenge
Lobera warned that Chennaiyin will not be easy opponents. He praised their experienced foreign players. He also noted their strong display against Mumbai City FC.
According to him, every team is fighting hard this season. Therefore, Bagan expect a tough contest on Monday.
Key Battle on the Field | Mohun Bagan vs Chennaiyin
Bagan faced anxious moments in their opening match. Goalkeeper Vishal Kaith made crucial interventions. Now, Chennaiyin coach Clifford Miranda will hope his players test the defence more effectively.
Monday’s clash could shape the early standings. Both teams will look to send a strong message in the ISL title race.
