District Officials Conduct School Visit
Senior district officials conducted a school visit at Parakalak High School in Khowai District on 7 February 2026. The visit focused on strengthening child protection measures and promoting girls’ education.
The visit was led by the District Magistrate & Collector, Khowai. The team included the ADM (PP), Khowai, OSD (Education), Khowai, the District Child Protection Officer, Khowai, and representatives from Child in Need Institute.
Review of Balika Manch and CHESTA Records
During the visit, the District Magistrate examined all records related to Balika Manch and CHESTA. He reviewed attendance registers, activity records, and follow-up reports. The review helped assess the proper implementation of child protection programmes at the school.
Officials stressed the importance of accurate documentation. They advised school authorities to maintain updated records and conduct regular meetings.
Interaction with Students
After perusing the records, the District Magistrate interacted with the students and discussed child rights, safety, and the need for regular attendance at school with the students. The students actively participated during the interaction session with the District Magistrate.
It was a student-teacher interaction, and the aim was to create awareness as well as foster confidence in students. It further helped students to approach teachers and authorities without fear.
Follow-Up on Absentee Girls
During the course of verification, it was found that five girls had been absent for the past five months. To attend to this, it was proposed to make home visits for further inquiry.
Subsequently, the officials visited the two girls at their homes and interacted with their guardians. The guardians assured the authorities and the officials that they would not marry their daughters before the age of 18. The guardians were also adamant and committed to ensuring their daughters’ education was continuous.
Focus on Child Protection and Education | Parakalak High School Visit
Authorities informed families about legal provisions for child marriages. They talked to them about how education is the right path to a sound future for girls. The purpose was to enhance coordination between schools, families, and district administrations.
Overall, visitation to the Parakalak High School was a manifestation of the commitment of the district administration towards ensuring that every girl child across Khowai District is able to access education, is protected, and has a secure future.
