Three-Hour Road Blockade in Karbook Over Poor National Highway Condition, Commuters Suffer

Karbook: Auto-rickshaw drivers in Karbook Sub-Division blocked a road on Monday. They protested against the poor condition of the National Highway from Jatanbari to Silachhari.

The protest started at around 9 am near the Gunamani Para BSF camp. It continued for nearly three hours.

The blockade stopped traffic on the Silachhari-Karbook road. As a result, commuters faced serious problems.

Students, office-goers and daily passengers suffered during the protest. People travelling for urgent work also faced delays. Several vehicles remained stuck on both sides of the road.

Auto Drivers Raise Road Safety Concerns

Auto-rickshaw drivers said large potholes have damaged several parts of the highway. They claimed that the road has remained in poor condition for a long time.

Even light rain creates muddy conditions on the road. Drivers often struggle to control their vehicles on damaged sections.

The drivers said they face accident risks every day. The rough road also damages their vehicles and increases repair costs.

Passengers also face an uncomfortable and risky journey on the route.

According to the drivers, they informed the concerned authorities several times. However, they did not receive a permanent solution.

The drivers said repeated appeals failed to bring any action. Therefore, they decided to organise the road blockade.

Administration Holds Talks With Protesters

After receiving information about the protest, a Karbook Sub-Divisional administration official (DMC) reached the area.

The official spoke with the protesting auto-rickshaw drivers and listened to their concerns.

The administration promised to raise the issue with higher authorities. Officials also assured the drivers that they would take necessary steps soon.

Following the assurance, the auto-rickshaw drivers ended their protest. Traffic on the Silachhari-Karbook road gradually returned to normal.

Residents Demand Immediate Highway Repairs

Local residents and auto-rickshaw drivers have demanded urgent repairs to the damaged National Highway.

They said a better road would improve passenger safety. It would also help maintain smooth transport services in the Karbook area.

Residents now expect the administration to act quickly. They want the authorities to start repair work without further delay.

The local people will closely watch the next steps taken by the administration.
