Agartala, September 7, 2026: Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured direct central funding for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
According to Pradyot, the assurance also includes steps for transferring land rights to the indigenous people of Tripura.
The remarks come at a time when the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord has gained fresh momentum following recent meetings in New Delhi.
Direct Funds for the ADC
Pradyot said the proposed financial arrangement could give the autonomous council greater control over funds from the Centre.
He claimed that central funds for the ADC currently move through the state government. A direct funding mechanism, he said, could reduce delays and strengthen the council’s financial autonomy.
The Tipra Motha leader described the issue as an important part of the broader demands linked to the Tiprasa Accord.
Land Rights Remain a Key Demand
Land rights have remained one of the most important issues for Tripura’s indigenous communities.
Pradyot said his discussion with Amit Shah covered both land rights and the financial powers of the ADC.
He has repeatedly stressed that the implementation of the accord should bring practical benefits to indigenous people.
However, the exact framework for transferring land rights has not yet been made public.
Accord Implementation Under Focus
The latest statement follows a series of discussions involving Pradyot, Chief Minister Manik Saha and Amit Shah.
The meetings have raised expectations about faster implementation of the agreement involving the Centre, the Tripura government and Tipra Motha.
Pradyot has also indicated that the coming weeks will be important for determining whether the assurances lead to concrete action.
Political Developments Add to the Pressure
The issue has also become politically significant ahead of the upcoming Village Committee elections.
Tipra Motha and the BJP are holding discussions over seat sharing for the polls. At the same time, Pradyot has maintained that the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord remains more important than electoral gains.
For now, attention is firmly focused on the Centre’s next steps.
If the promised measures move forward, they could have a major impact on the financial powers of the ADC and the long-standing land rights debate in Tripura.
Note: The claims about Amit Shah’s assurances are attributed to Pradyot Kishore Debbarma. The detailed terms and implementation mechanism have not yet been officially released.
