Mungiakami, Tripura | September 7, 2026: Political activity has intensified in Mungiakami ahead of the upcoming Village Committee elections. BJP and Tipra Motha candidates have stepped up their preparations by filing nomination papers for several seats.
The BJP-backed candidates arrived at the Mungiakami block office with party workers and supporters. The nomination filing turned into a show of organisational strength as local leaders joined the candidates during the process.
Several senior leaders were present at the programme. Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma attended the event along with BJP Mandal president Dhananjay Das, vice-president Gopal Das and other leaders from the BJP, Tipra Motha and IPFT.
Mungiakami Sees Growing Election Activity
Mungiakami block has 14 Village Committee seats. Therefore, the nomination process has become an important stage for political parties seeking to strengthen their position in the area.
Tipra Motha candidates had also started filing their nomination papers earlier. The party submitted nominations for several seats on Saturday, with MDC Utpal Debbarma leading the process.
By Monday, nominations had reportedly covered a large majority of the available seats. This shows that political parties are moving quickly as the deadline approaches.
Bikash Debbarma Targets CPI(M)
Speaking during the programme, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma criticised the CPI(M)’s record in Tripura.
Debbarma alleged that the CPI(M) failed to deliver enough development and welfare benefits for tribal communities during its years in power.
He also expressed confidence in the BJP-led alliance ahead of the Village Committee polls. According to Debbarma, the alliance is well placed to perform strongly in the election.
However, the final contest could depend on several local factors. Candidate popularity, grassroots organisation and voter sentiment may all influence the result.
Campaign Focus Shifts to Grassroots
With nomination papers now being filed, political parties are expected to increase their campaign activities in Mungiakami.
Leaders and candidates will likely focus on meeting voters and discussing local issues in the coming days. At the same time, party workers will have to strengthen their booth-level and village-level organisation.
The Village Committee elections will offer an important test for the BJP, Tipra Motha and their allies. The results could also provide a clearer picture of their grassroots support in the tribal areas of Tripura.
The coming days are expected to bring more political activity in Mungiakami as candidates begin their campaign for the Village Committee elections.
