Agartala, September 9, 2026: The Election Commission has deferred the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tripura in view of the upcoming Village Committee elections.
The decision comes as the state prepares for the local polls. The move is expected to give election officials more time to focus on the Village Committee election process.
SIR Exercise Deferred
The Election Commission had planned the SIR exercise to update and verify voter records across Tripura. However, officials have now decided to defer the exercise for the time being.
The decision is significant because the electoral-roll revision and Village Committee polls require extensive administrative coordination. Booth Level Officers and other election officials play a key role in both processes.
Final Electoral Roll on February 15
According to the latest schedule, the final electoral roll is expected to be published on February 15.
The revised timeline will allow election authorities to complete the Village Committee election-related work before taking up the intensive revision exercise.
Meanwhile, officials will continue their preparations for the VC polls. Political parties have already increased their activities across different parts of Tripura.
Relief for Election Officials
The decision could also reduce the workload on election officials during the Village Committee election period.
BLOs normally handle voter verification and other electoral-roll duties at the grassroots level. Therefore, postponing the SIR exercise can help officials concentrate on the immediate requirements of the VC polls.
At the same time, the Election Commission is expected to issue further instructions regarding the revised SIR schedule.
Political Activity Intensifies
The Village Committee elections have already triggered increased political activity across Tripura. Major political parties are working to finalise candidates and strengthen their grassroots organisations.
Nomination filing has also begun in several areas. Leaders from different parties are reaching out to voters and preparing their campaign strategies.
The VC polls will therefore remain the immediate focus for both the administration and political parties.
Once the election process concludes, attention is expected to return to the electoral-roll revision exercise. The publication of the final electoral roll on February 15 will mark an important stage in the revised process.
The Election Commission’s decision is expected to help the administration manage the Village Committee elections while preparing for the subsequent electoral-roll revision.
