Damaged NH Stretch in Unakoti Leaves Commuters Struggling
KUMARGHAT, TRIPURA | September 10, 2026
Travelling between Pecharthal and Nabincherra has become a difficult experience for many people in Unakoti district. A damaged stretch of the National Highway has developed potholes at several points, while rainwater and mud have made the situation worse.
For drivers who use the road every day, the problem is not new. But the monsoon has made the journey even harder.
Potholes Turn Into Trouble After Rain
During rainfall, water collects in the potholes and hides their depth. Drivers are often left with little choice but to slow down and look for a safer path.
For two-wheelers, the situation can be particularly risky. A sudden turn to avoid a pothole can also create problems when vehicles are approaching from the opposite direction.
Local drivers say the damaged road is also taking a toll on their vehicles. Frequent travel over uneven surfaces means higher repair and maintenance expenses.
Toto Drivers Raise Concerns
Toto drivers who regularly operate along the route say they are among those most affected.
They have to deal with the damaged road several times a day. The situation becomes more difficult when they carry elderly passengers or patients who need to reach health facilities.
Drivers have appealed to the authorities to repair the worst sections as soon as possible.
Residents Want a Lasting Solution
People living in the area say occasional repair work has not solved the problem permanently. They want the damaged portions to be properly inspected before a fresh repair is carried out.
Some residents have also questioned the quality of earlier repair work. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
The highway remains an important connection for people travelling through the area. With the monsoon continuing, residents fear that the road could deteriorate further if repairs are delayed.
They are now asking the concerned authorities to inspect the Pecharthal–Nabincherra stretch and take necessary steps to restore smoother and safer movement.
