Agartala: The political picture for Tripura’s upcoming Village Committee elections is beginning to take shape, with a large number of candidates securing seats without a contest.
According to the latest figures, Tipra Motha has secured 1,148 seats unopposed, while the BJP has won 31 seats without a contest.
The development gives Tipra Motha a significant early advantage before voters head to the polling stations for the remaining contested seats.
Tipra Motha Takes a Clear Lead
Tipra Motha has emerged as the biggest beneficiary of the unopposed seats.
The party secured uncontested seats across several blocks under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
Jampuijala recorded one of the highest numbers, with 212 Tipra Motha candidates elected unopposed.
Hezamara followed with 149 seats, while Padmabil recorded 104. Belbari had 109 unopposed seats, while Tulashikhar recorded 82.
These figures highlight Tipra Motha’s strong organisational presence in several tribal areas.
BJP Also Wins Seats Without Contest
The BJP has secured 31 seats unopposed.
Its candidates emerged victorious without a contest in several blocks.
Amarpur, Tulashikhar and Hezamara each recorded three BJP candidates elected unopposed.
The party also secured uncontested seats in areas including Karbook, Padmabil, Dasda, Lajuri, Jiraniya and Kumarghat.
However, the BJP’s tally remains considerably lower than Tipra Motha’s.
Final Election Picture Yet to Emerge
The unopposed results do not tell the entire story.
The nomination withdrawal process was scheduled to continue until September 11. The final candidate list will determine how many seats will actually go to polling.
Therefore, the present figures should be viewed as an early indication rather than the final outcome of the Village Committee elections.
4,597 Seats Across 587 Village Committees
The Village Committee elections cover 587 committees with 4,597 seats.
Thousands of candidates entered the race during the nomination process.
The high number of uncontested seats has already become a major issue in the political campaign.
Opposition parties have questioned the circumstances surrounding the nomination process. Meanwhile, the election authorities have continued with the formal procedures for the polls.
September 28 Polls Will Decide the Contested Seats
The remaining contested seats are scheduled to go to the polls on September 28.
The election will provide a major test of the political strength of the parties across TTAADC areas.
For Tipra Motha, the large number of uncontested victories offers a strong head start.
The BJP, CPI(M) and other parties will now focus on the seats where voters will decide the outcome.
With the final candidate list expected after the withdrawal process, attention will now shift to the constituencies where a direct contest remains.
The September 28 vote is expected to be closely watched as parties battle for influence at the grassroots level across Tripura.
