Udaipur, Tripura | July 25: A protest demanding the immediate repair of the long-neglected road connecting Tulamura and Boropathari in Udaipur Sub-Division turned tense after police intervened and detained several demonstrators.

Residents Launch Road Blockade

Residents began a road blockade at Dhupatali Bazaar on Thursday, July 23, to protest the deteriorating condition of the road. The demonstration continued into Friday, disrupting traffic and daily life in the area.

According to local residents, the road has remained in poor condition for years. Large potholes and damaged stretches have made daily travel difficult. During the monsoon season, heavy rainfall leaves the road muddy and waterlogged. Many sections become nearly impassable for vehicles and pedestrians.

Protesters Demand Immediate Road Repairs

Protesters said they had repeatedly urged the authorities to repair the road. They claimed that officials had given several assurances, but no repair work had begun. Frustrated by the delay, local people organized the road blockade and demanded immediate action.

Residents also called for a permanent solution instead of temporary repairs. They said the road is an important route for students, patients, farmers, traders, and daily commuters.

Police Intervene and Detain Demonstrators

As the protest continued, police reached the site to restore normal traffic and maintain law and order. Officers cleared the blocked road and detained several demonstrators.

Police officials said the action was necessary to prevent further disruption and ensure public safety. Traffic gradually resumed after the intervention.

Emotional Claim Emerges During Protest

An emotional claim surfaced during the demonstration. Fellow protesters said one of the detained youths had previously lost his unborn child after a road accident that they alleged resulted from the poor condition of the road.

This claim has not been independently verified. However, the incident added to the emotions surrounding the protest and strengthened calls for immediate road repairs.

Residents Warn of Larger Protest

The incident has renewed public concern about infrastructure in the area. Residents warned that they would organize a larger protest if the authorities failed to begin repair work soon.

They urged the administration to take immediate steps to rebuild the Tulamura–Boropathari road and provide a long-term solution for the benefit of local communities.

The situation remains under close watch as residents await an official response and concrete action from the authorities.

Amarpur MLA Ranjit Das also found himself caught in the same traffic jam. Like other commuters, he waited for traffic to move again.

Local residents said the authorities did not provide an alternative route during the bridge construction. They also claimed that traffic officials failed to manage vehicle movement properly. As a result, commuters continue to face daily inconvenience.

Residents urged the administration to speed up the bridge project. They also requested better traffic management and a temporary alternative route during construction. They believe these measures will help emergency vehicles and reduce public inconvenience in the future.
