Family members and local residents identified the deceased as Pradip Das. They alleged that Pradip’s father, Sukumar Das, sexually assaulted Pradip’s wife over a long period. They also claimed that the woman was four months pregnant.

According to local residents, Pradip became emotionally distressed after learning about the alleged incidents. They claimed that he later died by suicide. Police have not confirmed this account or established the exact cause behind his death.

Karbook | July 16: Serious allegations have surfaced against Shantu Das, an Aadhaar operator working at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Office in Karbook, Tripura. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has temporarily suspended his Aadhaar Operator Code after detecting suspected violations of its operational guidelines.
The case has drawn attention because it involves the Aadhaar enrolment system, one of India’s most important identity services.
UIDAI Detects Suspicious Enrolment Activity
According to official information, the UIDAI Regional Office in Guwahati sent a letter to the Chief Engineer of the Rural Development Department, Government of Tripura, on June 25, 2026.
The technical investigation found preliminary evidence of “Parallel / Other State Enrolment.” UIDAI treats this activity as a serious violation of its operating rules.
The letter identifies the operator as Shantu Das (Operator ID: 04-su-san).
More Than 900 Enrolments Reportedly Linked to West Bengal
UIDAI reported that the operator completed 1,001 Aadhaar enrolments during May 2026.
According to the letter, 931 of those enrolments took place in West Bengal. UIDAI considered this unusually high number suspicious. As a result, the authority suspended the operator’s Aadhaar Operator Code while the investigation continues.
Investigation Underway
UIDAI has directed the concerned department to submit a detailed investigation report within 14 working days.
If investigators confirm the allegations, the department must take legal action. It must also inform UIDAI if authorities register an FIR in the case.
Officials have not yet disclosed the progress of the Rural Development Department’s internal inquiry.

A two-day Journalism Training Workshop concluded successfully in Gomati district. The event aimed to improve the professional skills of working journalists. Moreover, it was held at the Panchayat Raj Training Institute in Udaipur.
The workshop was organized under the Chief Minister Skill Development Project. Additionally, the Department of Skill Development, Government of Tripura, conducted the program with support from the District Office of the Information & Cultural Affairs Department, Gomati.

Udaipur, Gomati District: The historic Jagannath Rath Yatra in Udaipur, Tripura, drew thousands of devotees on Thursday. The annual festival, however, took an unfortunate turn after several women reportedly lost their gold chains in separate snatching incidents.

Auto-rickshaw drivers said large potholes have damaged several parts of the highway. They claimed that the road has remained in poor condition for a long time.
Even light rain creates muddy conditions on the road. Drivers often struggle to control their vehicles on damaged sections.
The drivers said they face accident risks every day. The rough road also damages their vehicles and increases repair costs.
Passengers also face an uncomfortable and risky journey on the route.
According to the drivers, they informed the concerned authorities several times. However, they did not receive a permanent solution.

The official spoke with the protesting auto-rickshaw drivers and listened to their concerns.
The administration promised to raise the issue with higher authorities. Officials also assured the drivers that they would take necessary steps soon.
Following the assurance, the auto-rickshaw drivers ended their protest. Traffic on the Silachhari-Karbook road gradually returned to normal.
