Karbook, Tripura: The South Tripura Bus Owners Association opened its new Karbook Branch on Sunday, September 13, 2026. The association also held its 1st Conference at the Karbook Bazar Committee Office.

The programme began at 11 AM. Local bus owners and association members attended the event.

Sanjay Manik Tripura, MLA of the 43-Karbook Assembly Constituency, attended the programme as the Chief Guest and Inaugurator.

Social workers Atindra Reang and Hiranmoy Tripura also joined the programme. In addition, Gaman Joy Reang, SDPO of Karbook Sub-Division, attended as a Special Guest.

Several association leaders also attended the conference. They included Sanjoy Ghosh, Member of the Central Committee of the South Tripura Bus Owners Association, and Debabrata Sarkar, Convener of the association.

Tripura has stepped up its clean-energy plans with the launch of the Tripura Clean Energy Roadmap 2035. The state also introduced the green skilling programme ‘Unnayan’ and the Transforming Renewable Energy Acceleration in Tripura (TREAT) initiative.

Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath launched the programmes in Agartala on Thursday. Senior government officials, Asian Development Bank representatives and other stakeholders joined the event.

Government Puts Skills at the Centre

Speaking at the programme, Nath stressed the growing need for skilled workers in the renewable-energy sector.

According to him, Tripura needs reliable electricity to support industries, hospitals, schools and other essential services. At the same time, the state must prepare workers for the changing energy sector.

Therefore, the Unnayan programme will focus on practical training for people who want to work in clean energy.

The programme aims to train more than 1,000 people. It will cover ITI graduates, Class XII pass-outs, diploma engineers, technicians and members of self-help groups.

Tripura Targets 500 MW of Renewable Energy

The state has set an ambitious target of reaching 500 MW of renewable-energy capacity by 2030.

At present, Tripura has around 58.76 MW of renewable-energy capacity. However, the government plans to expand generation through several types of projects.

These include rooftop solar systems, ground-mounted solar plants and solar micro-grids. The government also plans to expand solar applications in rural areas.

Meanwhile, existing programmes such as PM-KUSUM, PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and other central schemes will support the transition.

It intends to move the electricity distribution network in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area underground. The project could cost more than ₹1,500 crore.

Nath said the tender process has reached the final stage and work orders have been issued. However, construction is expected to begin after the elections.

The upgrade will include underground cables, GIS substations, SCADA systems and optical-fibre communication infrastructure.

Green Skills Could Open New Opportunities

The Unnayan programme also aims to connect young people with emerging jobs in renewable energy.

Training courses such as Suryamitra and Solar PV Technician will help participants develop practical skills. The Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency, Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission and TSECL are involved in the training effort.
