Agartala, September 5, 2026: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has said the implementation of the Tripartite Accord will move forward after the upcoming Village Committee (VC) elections.
Saha made the statement after a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. The meeting also included Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman and BJP Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra.
VC Elections Take Centre Stage
The upcoming VC elections have become an important political event in Tripura.
The polls are scheduled for September 28, 2026. Meanwhile, the BJP, Tipra Motha and IPFT have agreed to coordinate for the elections.
The parties are also discussing seat-sharing arrangements. Teams have reportedly been formed to work out the details.
Accord Implementation After Polls
According to Chief Minister Saha, the meeting with Amit Shah also focused on the implementation of the Tripartite Accord.
Saha said the implementation process would begin after the VC elections. He indicated that the process could start from next month.
However, the Chief Minister did not confirm every detail surrounding the proposed implementation.
Focus on the Interests of All Communities
Saha stressed that the accord must benefit all communities in Tripura.
He said the implementation should not create discrimination or affect the interests of other sections of society.
At the same time, the government wants to address the concerns linked to the accord through discussions and dialogue.
Political Cooperation Gains Importance
The developments come as the BJP and Tipra Motha move toward greater political coordination.
Earlier, Tipra Motha secured 24 of the 28 seats in the 2026 TTAADC elections. The BJP won the remaining four seats.
Now, their cooperation in the VC polls could mark a new phase in Tripura politics.
What Happens After the VC Polls?
The implementation of the Tripartite Accord remains a major issue for Tipra Motha and its supporters.
Therefore, the period after the September 28 VC elections could become important.
The next phase may bring greater clarity on issues such as tribal rights, land-related concerns and the future administrative framework.
For now, political attention remains focused on the VC elections. After the polls, the government’s next steps on the accord are likely to draw close attention across Tripura.
