Agartala, September 6, 2026: The Centre is preparing to speed up the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord in Tripura. A team from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is expected to visit the state next week.
The proposed visit comes soon after a key meeting in New Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman.
The meeting focused on pending issues linked to the accord. Now, the MHA team is expected to hold detailed discussions in Tripura.
MHA Team May Review Pending Issues
The visiting officials are likely to meet representatives of the Tripura government. During the visit, they may review the progress of commitments under the agreement.
The discussions could also cover issues that still need administrative action. In addition, officials may work on a clearer roadmap for the next stage.
However, the Centre has not publicly announced the team’s full agenda. Therefore, details about specific decisions remain unclear.
Tiprasa Accord Remains a Major Issue
The Tripartite Accord was signed in March 2024. The Centre, Tripura government and Tipra Motha were among the parties involved.
The agreement aims to address several concerns of Tripura’s indigenous population. These include political, economic, social, cultural and constitutional issues.
For Tipra Motha, implementation of the accord remains a major priority. The party has repeatedly raised concerns over land rights and other issues affecting indigenous communities.
Land Rights Among Key Concerns
Land rights are expected to remain an important part of the discussions.
Pradyot Kishore Debbarman recently said land rights were discussed during his meeting with Amit Shah. He also mentioned greater financial and administrative autonomy for the TTAADC.
Meanwhile, the Centre and state government have indicated that the implementation process should move forward.
Visit Comes Before VC Elections
The proposed MHA visit comes at a significant time for Tripura.
The state is preparing for the Village Committee elections on September 28, 2026. BJP, Tipra Motha and IPFT are also coordinating for the polls.
Against this backdrop, the MHA delegation’s visit has added importance to the political developments in the state.
What Comes Next?
The biggest question now is how quickly the accord will move toward actual implementation.
If the upcoming discussions produce clear decisions, they could provide a roadmap for the next phase.
For now, stakeholders are waiting for more details from the Centre. Meanwhile, attention remains focused on the MHA team’s proposed visit and its outcome.
The visit could become an important step in addressing long-pending demands linked to the Tiprasa Accord.
