Tripura University Faces Questions Over Delay in High Court-Directed Recruitment List

Agartala, September 6, 2026: A recruitment dispute at Tripura University has once again come into focus after questions were raised over the implementation of a recent High Court order.

The dispute concerns the Deputy Registrar post reserved for the Scheduled Caste category. The Tripura High Court had directed the university to publish the relevant select list within a specified period.

The order came on August 20. Yet, concerns remain about the status of the selection list.

Court Had Given a Clear Direction

The case is connected to W.P.(C) No. 734 of 2024, filed by Sri Krishna Das.

The petitioner challenged issues related to the recruitment process for the Deputy Registrar post.

Justice S. Datta Purkayastha delivered the judgment on August 20, 2026. The court directed the concerned authorities to publish the SC-category select list.

The university was given one week after receiving the order to complete the process.

Selection Process Has Been Pending for Years

The recruitment process did not begin recently. Tripura University issued its recruitment advertisement on November 10, 2023.

The notification included vacancies under several categories. Krishna Das participated in the process as an SC-category candidate.

The university later appointed Dr. Muneendra Mishra as Deputy Registrar against the unreserved category in November 2024.

However, the SC-category selection did not reach the same stage.

Interview Was Held in 2024

The university conducted the SC-category interview on December 2, 2024.

Even after the interview, the selection result was not made public.

During the court proceedings, the university said the result had remained pending because of the litigation.

That explanation formed part of the proceedings before the High Court.

Court Also Kept Another Option Open

The High Court considered what would happen if the petitioner did not find a place in the SC-category merit list.

In that event, the court allowed him to approach the university within the prescribed period.

He could then seek an opportunity to appear for the UR-category interview. The court also specified further steps for that process.

Questions Over Administrative Transparency

The delay has now put the university’s recruitment process under renewed scrutiny.

For candidates waiting for a selection result, such delays can create uncertainty. At the same time, the reasons behind the delay need to be assessed in light of the university’s submissions before the court.

The larger issue is whether the court’s latest direction will be followed within the prescribed timeframe.

Attention Now Turns to the University

The recruitment dispute has been running since 2023. Therefore, the latest court direction could prove important for bringing the matter forward.

The university’s next move will be closely watched by the candidates involved.

If the select list is published as directed, it could finally provide clarity on the long-pending SC-category recruitment.

For now, however, questions remain over the timing of compliance with the High Court order.
