Sports items distribution youths in Three Village Committees

A sports items distribution programme has been held by local leadership on Monday to promote physical activity among young people at the local level.

The programme was conducted at Gobachhan Para under West Manikya Village Committee, Panchafa Para under Jatan Bari Village Committee, and Ramchandra Para under East Manikya Village Committee. The children received volleyballs and cricket kits from the organisers.

The objectives of the initiative were to inspire rural youths to engage in outdoor sports. There was also emphasis on the development of teamwork skills, discipline, and positive lifestyles. The youths generally received the initiative with open minds and recognized the sports gear as useful for their participation in outdoor sports.

Senior district officials conducted a school visit at Parakalak High School in Khowai District on 7 February 2026. The visit focused on strengthening child protection measures and promoting girls’ education.

The visit was led by the District Magistrate & Collector, Khowai. The team included the ADM (PP), Khowai, OSD (Education), Khowai, the District Child Protection Officer, Khowai, and representatives from Child in Need Institute.

Review of Balika Manch and CHESTA Records

During the visit, the District Magistrate examined all records related to Balika Manch and CHESTA. He reviewed attendance registers, activity records, and follow-up reports. The review helped assess the proper implementation of child protection programmes at the school.

Officials stressed the importance of accurate documentation. They advised school authorities to maintain updated records and conduct regular meetings.

Interaction with Students

After perusing the records, the District Magistrate interacted with the students and discussed child rights, safety, and the need for regular attendance at school with the students. The students actively participated during the interaction session with the District Magistrate.

Follow-Up on Absentee Girls

During the course of verification, it was found that five girls had been absent for the past five months. To attend to this, it was proposed to make home visits for further inquiry.

Subsequently, the officials visited the two girls at their homes and interacted with their guardians. The guardians assured the authorities and the officials that they would not marry their daughters before the age of 18. The guardians were also adamant and committed to ensuring their daughters’ education was continuous.

Senior district officials conducted a comprehensive school visit at Ichirbil High School under Teliamura Sub-Division as part of continued efforts to strengthen child protection systems and promote a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Teliamura School Visit

During the visit, the officials interacted with the Headmaster and teaching staff. They discussed academic supervision, student safety, and counselling mechanisms. The officials also stressed that the teachers would have to act as mentors under Balika Manch and CHESTA. They urged teachers to deal sensitively and consistently with students.

The District Magistrate personally scrutinized all the registers and records maintained in regard to Balika Manch. He looked for attendance details, activity logs, and follow-up actions. He advised school authorities to keep updated records, adding that meetings should be held regularly. Clear documentation, he said, allows for monitoring and accountability.

Later on, the District Magistrate had an interactive session with the students.     The district administration in association with Dharmanagar Municipal Council conducted a massive eviction drive on Tuesday to free up roads and footpaths from encroachments like unauthorised constructions, banners and food stalls. The drive in question was flagged off at 3:00 PM and took us through the power points of town one by one.

    Encroachments Removed from Busy Market Areas

    At the time of operation, authorities conducted the eviction at East Market, Harimandir Market, Vivekananda Road, In front of BBI School, Dighir Paar and in front of Netaji Statue. These areas used to be heavily encroached upon. Traffic congestion became the issue, pedestrian’s inconvenience was inevitable.
