CITU Holds Protest Rally in Udaipur, Submits Five-Point Charter of Demands

Workers Join Rally Across Udaipur

Udaipur, Tripura: The Udaipur Divisional Committee of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) organized a protest rally on Monday to press for a five-point charter of demands.

The procession began at Jamtala and moved through Central Road, Old Motor Stand, Mahadev Dighi Road, and New Town Road before returning to its starting point. Workers, CITU members, supporters, and labourers participated in large numbers.

Before the march started, a five-member CITU delegation met officials of the Gomati District Administration. The team submitted a memorandum containing the organization’s five demands to the District Magistrate.

Leaders Highlight Labour Concerns

After the rally, CITU organized a protest meeting at Jamtala. During the meeting, Divisional Secretary Pradip Saha, Dilip Dutta, and Amal Chakraborty addressed the gathering.

The speakers criticized the labour policies of the Central and State Governments. They also demanded the withdrawal of the labour codes, claiming they work against workers’ interests. Furthermore, the leaders urged the government not to implement those labour codes in Tripura.

In addition, the speakers sought adequate compensation for rubber growers and workers affected by natural disasters. They also demanded an end to alleged harassment linked to the e-code system.

Meanwhile, the organization called for higher daily wages for workers. It also urged the authorities to complete the Rajarbag Motor Stand quickly and open it for public use. Finally, the leaders demanded an end to alleged police harassment of labourers.

CITU Plans More Protest Programmes

Speaking at the meeting, Amal Chakraborty said many workers continue to face economic hardship. According to him, limited employment opportunities have forced many people to leave the state in search of work.

He further alleged that opposition political parties face increasing pressure. At the same time, he appealed to people from all political backgrounds to unite and protect democratic rights through peaceful movements.

In conclusion, CITU leaders said they will continue organizing protest programmes in the coming days. They added that the movement will continue until the government addresses the five-point charter of demands.
