Agartala, September 7, 2026: The BJP and Tipra Motha held lengthy talks in Agartala on Sunday night. The two parties discussed seat sharing for the upcoming Village Committee elections.
The meeting took place at a private hotel. Senior leaders from both sides joined the discussions.
Senior Leaders Join Talks
The Tipra Motha team included TTAADC Chief Executive Member Runiel Debbarma. Former CEM PC Jamatia also attended the meeting.
Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma joined the delegation. MLAs Ranjita Debbarma and Biswajit Kalai also took part.
The BJP team included Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath. Ministers Tinku Roy and Sushanta Chowdhury also attended.
Seat Sharing Tops the Discussion
Seat distribution emerged as the main issue during the talks.
According to sources, the BJP wants representation across all blocks. The party has proposed a proportional formula for seat sharing.
However, both sides still need to settle some details. Meanwhile, leaders continued discussions late into the night.
Announcement Expected Soon
The two parties expect to finalise the arrangement soon. Sources indicated that leaders could announce the formula on Monday morning.
The agreement will decide which party contests particular seats.
As a result, candidates and supporters are waiting for greater clarity.
VC Elections Gain Importance
The Village Committee elections carry major political importance in Tripura.
The polls will cover 587 Village Committees and 4,597 seats. The election will take place on September 28.
Therefore, the BJP-Tipra Motha seat-sharing formula could shape the campaign across the TTAADC areas.
The two parties have already agreed to work together in the VC elections. Now, they must settle the seat distribution.
Alliance Strategy Under Focus
The BJP and Tipra Motha have strong political interests in the tribal areas.
At the same time, both parties want to protect their organisational bases. The final seat-sharing formula will show how they balance those interests.
For voters, the agreement will offer a clearer picture of the alliance’s election strategy.
The next announcement could therefore become an important development ahead of the September 28 polls.
